A Medical detoxification (or “detox”) is the first phase of the rehabilitation process for recovery from addiction at Jintara Rehab.
Detox can be defined as the process of clearing toxins from the body of a patient who is dependent on substances of abuse. It’s designed to manage the symptoms of withdrawal that follow cessation of drug use, and to help patients overcome physical dependency.
Prior to coming to Jintara, we conduct multiple phone assessments, and request clients complete online forms to help our medical team prepare for your arrival. Some clients require immediate medical treatment the moment they land in Chiang Mai, and my Nurse and Support Teams will have planned an appointment at our Partner hospital on arrival, to ensure your safety.
The withdrawal is different for every client. The duration of the detox process, and the types of medications used will vary based on the type of substance abuse a person is suffering from; as well as individual factors, such as age, physical condition, family history, co-occurring conditions, length of addiction and any illness. Detox plans are highly individualized.
The actual detox, in the vast majority of cases, is conducted at Jintara Rehab in your private room, under the guidance of our 24-hour Nursing team and hospitality team. Our goal is to keep you safe, comfortable and well cared for during your detox.
It’s important to remember that medical detox does not treat the underlying behavioral, environmental or genetic causes of addiction. For most clients, however, once they are taking their detox medication, getting good rest and nutrition, they are able to participate and take advantage of their program at Jintara Rehab fairly quickly.
Under no circumstances should a client stop "cold turkey" prior to coming to treatment at Jintara Rehab. We would always recommend being open and honest with your family Doctor on your plans to attend rehab, and ask for suitable medication to make any long travel safe for you.
