Ann Whelan (Hanan)

Hanan is a therapist on the clinical team at Jintara, with more than 15 years of international experience across addiction recovery, trauma therapy, and mental health counselling. She holds a Master of Science in Psychotherapy from the University of Sheffield and is a Certified Addictions Therapist with the Asia Pacific Certification Board. She also holds a PhD in Educational Psychology and a Diploma in Counselling from the UK. She spent more than 30 years teaching, retiring as a Senior Lecturer in 2017, and began her counselling career in 2007. Her career has spanned Oman, Thailand, Bahrain, and the UK, in both senior clinical leadership and direct therapy roles, and she has worked in Thailand since 2017.

Her practice integrates trauma-focused approaches including Attachment-Focused EMDR (all three levels, Parnell Institute) and Schema Therapy (trained with Dr. Rob Brockman), alongside holistic modalities such as sound bowl therapy and Pranic healing. She previously led clinical operations at Lanna Health Care and Seasons in Chiang Mai, counselled at DARA Rehab, and worked at drug rehabilitation centres in Bahrain and the Al-Harub Medical Centre in Oman. She previously ran Oasis of Hope Counselling in Muscat as Senior Therapist and Supervisor.

At Jintara, Hanan is on site full time and brings EMDR to her sessions. She is EMDR trained and listed on the EMDR International Association directory, one of Jintara's three EMDR therapists. She provides expert input on high-risk and complex cases, and integrates Schema Therapy, EMDR, and trauma recovery work into individual sessions with clients. She speaks English, Arabic, and Swahili fluently, which supports the clinical team's work with clients from the Middle East and East Africa.
